SWA asked, we listened.
During the last two years, our organisation has been working closely with Saudi Water Authority (SWA) to achieve its vision of executing cement mortar lining (CML) services at the project site.
The Upgrade of Hali Dam – Shoaiba Water Transmission System is the first CML endeavour of its kind, recreating ‘’factory conditions’’ at the project site by utilizing the latest automated mobile batch plant technology. The project involves the lining of 56-inch diameter CS pipes totalling 82 kilometres in length. Once complete, there will be an increase in the capacity of the ’Hali Al-Shoaiba Transmission Line’, reaching a production capacity of up to 241,000 cubic meters per day (SWCC Annual Report, 2022).
Benefits of mobile batch plants include having the flexibility of being able to easily move between different site locations in close proximity to the pipeline ROW. Setup is quick due to its pre-assembled structure, meaning Tabteen-CPT’s batching plants can be installed in a very short period of time on a simple concrete foundation.
Performing CML production at the site is proven to protect the product from potential damage that can occur during long distance transportation and double handling. Consequently, this process will eradicate expensive repair costs and keep the project completion schedule on time.
Tabteen-CPT is the first and only company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that offers the mobile batch plant solution and continues to remain at the forefront of the technological evolution of the CML industry. This initiative represents a huge milestone for the organisation, demonstrating its capability to mobilise to remote locations in both the East and West of the country.
Tabteen-CPT will also cement mortar line the Al-Qunfudah pipeline package at the same location; a 20-inch water transmission system, which will provide household water to local residents of the Tiahmah region on the coast of the Red Sea.
Both projects will be managed under the leadership of PM David Peck—an industry veteran—with over 35 years of experience working with CML.
Lining work is expected to begin by early March-2025.
