CEMENT MORTAR LINING

CEMENT MORTAR LINING OF PIPES AND PIPE FITTINGS

Cement mortar lining is a corrosion prevention method used to internally protect water transmission pipeline systems. The mortar mixture is centrifugally sprayed on to the inner surface of the steel pipe wall—and is smoothed by toweling—to produce an even homogenous finish.

Unlike epoxy linings, cement mortar lining offers chemical protection at the steel-mortar interface, resulting in enhanced protection and a longer service life. If operated correctly, cement lined pipes can remain in service for up to 100 years.

Tabteen CPT can cement mortar line pipes and fittings ranging from 3″ to 120″ in diameter. Cement mortar lining services can be offered at both the shop or site, and pipes are either lined individually on berms or after welding in situ.

Our cement lining products are used in both cross-country pipelines and refinery piping systems. Mortar mixtures can be modified to conform to local specifications – as requested by the client.

GIRTH WELD JOINT LINING

Usually, pipes and pipe fittings over 36’’ dia (man-entry size) are cement mortar lined at the shop with a bare steel cutback area on each end ranging between 100-200mm. Once the items have been transported to the project site – and pipe welding is complete – girth weld joints are lined internally in situ.

At Tabteen CPT, we understand how to execute in situ lining operations safely, and collectively our team has over 100 years of experience in the field. All projects are carried out under stringent confined space permit-to-work systems, and include a dedicated safety managers’ involvement, who will develop and execute OHS plans and procedures in accordance with legal guidelines. Moreover, man-entry at the pipeline right-of-way is assessed using site specific risk assessment criteria that studies:

• The diameter size of the pipe
• The length of the pipeline
• The local climate / weather
• The internal temperature of the pipeline
• Terrain type and pipeline gradient
• Neighbouring project activities
• Lockout-tagout (LOTO)

MOBILE BATCH PLANTS

CEMENT MORTAR LINING SERVICES AT THE PROJECT SITE

Mobile batch plants offer contractors the option to have Cement Mortar Lining (CML) production executed at the project site (or at the client’s premises). Benefits include having the flexibility of being able to easily move between different site locations, which in turn allows for increased cement mortar lining productivity. Setup is quick due to its pre-assembled structure, meaning Tabteen CPT’s batching plants can be installed in a very short period of time on a simple concrete foundation.

Carrying out CML production close to the project site will help protect the product from damage that can occur during long distance transportation. This process will eradicate expensive repair costs and keep the project completion schedule on time. Moreover, there is a reduction in additional logistical expenses associated with trucking pipes from the pipe-mill to the cement lining shop. Instead, pipes can be shifted from the pipe-mill directly to the project location, which is often in close proximity to the pipeline right-of-way.

BS-6920 Approved Product

Our Commitment
To Safe Drinking
Water

By working closely with our partners at Intertek laboratories, in Middlesex England, we have managed to demonstrate that our cement mortar lining products are safe for use with potable drinking water. Tabteen CPT’s cement lining has satisfied all five testing areas, covering:

• Odour & Flavour
• Appearance of Water
• Growth of Aquatic Micro-organisms
• Cytotoxicity
• Extraction of Metals

Additionally, our organization has complied with the requirements laid out by the Water Regulations Approval Scheme (WRAS) and has received full material approval (Approval No: 2210557). In a recent letter addressed to Tabteen CPT, WRAS stated:

‘’The material is suitable for contact with wholesome water for domestic purposes having met the requirements of BS6920-1:2000 and/or 2014 Suitability of non-metallic products for use in contact with water intended for human consumption with regard to their effect on the quality of the water.”

The approval also covers retarding admixtures and micro-silica, both which are optional mix design modifications.
